the whole family
Last night, I was feeling a bit tired by 9:30. So I shut off the lights, locked the doors and went to bed. I decided to make my rounds though and make sure all of the chitlins were snug in their beds. I checked on Justin...who has the only room downstairs...and sound asleep he was. As I made my way upstairs into Stephs room, then Jareds, then Jaroms I came to the harsh realization...this WHOLE family snores!!

Offensive MVP
We had Justins football banquet on Monday night...potluck style. So the menu consisted of some fried chicken, pizza, lots of lasagnas, someone cooked a ham, someone else tried to make enchiladas but they looked a little dry and cracked and bit like cardboard so I didn't have any. Then of course we had potato salad, pasta salad, watergate salad...all kinds of hodge podge. It's a good thing my Soupa-Star was recognized otherwise it wouldn't have been a very memorable night. So let me get on with my bragging so that I can go make myself some breakfast!Justin Andrew Wright, son of Steven and Julie Wright is the Offensive MVP of the year! Scoring 114 points out of the 266 total points scored this season with an average of 12.7 points per game, he rushed 146 times and ran the ball 1161 yards!! He made 16 Rushing Touchdowns and 1 Receiving touchdown, 4 - 2 point conversions, and 4 successful kicks out of 6 tries! And lastly, he made his mama proud!! So you can see how recognition made the night worth it...I'll get over the trauma of the food soon enough. We love you Justin!! Good job!

let's just say
Let's just say you had a 14 year old freshman football player and he had seminary in the middle of the day. And then, let's just say you got an email from his seminary teacher saying that he wasn't there on Friday, October 9, which was, in fact, a half day. So you called the seminary teacher and said "are you sure he wasn't there? Maybe he walked in late because I know he was at school that day". And they said "no, we're pretty sure he wasn't here". So when this 14 year old gets home from school, you ask him about the incident and he says "no mom, I was there..we sang hymn 19 and took a scripture mastery quiz". All the while sounding oh so convincing. So you say "well, I'll just call him tomorrow and make sure you turned that quiz in and that he has a grade for you and then he'll know you were there". So you both agree that that's a good way to prove he was in class and go on about your night. Later in the evening, the family sits down for scripture study and before we begin, you read them the words to a hymn...one of your favorites actually..."did you think to pray?" Oh, how praying rests the weary!! Prayer will change the night to day. So when life gets dark and dreary, Don't forget to pray.
Then you send them to bed and remind them to say their personal prayers. Let's just say about 10 minutes later, that same 14 year old kid comes down, sits next to you, and says Mom, can I talk to you? Of course you say yes, because, how often does a 14 year old want to talk to Mom, right? And he proceeds to tell you that he did in fact miss seminary that day. Because his little football friends (all freshman) wanted to see what it would be like to be swept and what a better day than a half day to try it because then they would only be in there for 20 - 25 minutes (roughly). Of course, he didn't want to do it but he let himself fall to peer pressure (yeah, right!). You tell him how falling to peer pressure is a sign of weakness and that he is a leader, then you tell him that you are proud of him for telling the truth and ask him if it feels better to have that weight off of his shoulders now that he doesn't have to worry about being caught or having to lie anymore...to which he smiles and shyly chuckles and says "yeeeesssss!! Mom stop!! You're making me laugh!" (Because you say things in a silly way so that you can see him smile). And then you tell him that he's still your superstar and you will advise him of his consequence tomorrow and send him to bed but not before making him tell his father the truth too.
So let's just say that was the situation...what consequence would you give?
being swept - when you are late for class, and have been locked out, security sweeps up all of the students in the halls and takes them to some classroom where they sit and do nothing..no talking. (because we all know that's a lot more productive then letting them in to class a little late and to actually learn something and just giving them a tardy!!)

#82...in our eyes.
What I don't know is why the cheerleaders have a cheer that says something about red and black when they clearly wear white in half of their games...hmmmm? Another thing I don't know is why they have to be so rough with my baby!! And why I can't go spank those boys that are tackling him and then stare down at him like he's some fellon they won't let up 'til the cops arrive.
He is!!...at least in our eyes!

only in the Wright house...
The day started out as all other Saturdays do. I got up early, and as always, attended Jared's football game. Jared hates football!! He has no interest whatsoever in it and his coach's know this. Due to his hate for the game, he usually only plays his mandatory 4 plays per half and that's all. Needless to say, Steve doesn't attend many of his games...not enough action. And that's okay, he stays home with the baby. Anyways, today was the first day of playoffs...single elimination, so we knew it would be an exciting one. Jared's team lost...they're out of the playoffs. He and I were feeling a bit blue about it but were quickly cheered up when we saw this in front of us...
Yes, that would be a man up there in that palm tree. I'd say about 50 ft up, if not more. We thought it would be something that lots of you don't see on a regular basis so we snapped a shot and off we went to grab lunch. Got back just in time for Justins game. Now Justin on the other hand, loves football. He eats, sleeps, and breathes it.
Due to his love of the game, he usually plays offense and defense and gets ALOT of playing time. Other than a the definition of a touchdown, I don't know anything about football. So don't ask me what he was playing or doing but next thing I knew one of the moms was yelling "where's the medic?! Get her over here!!" I look up and it is Justin who needs the medic. He hurt his wrist. After assessing him, she said it was probably torn ligaments or tendens.
But after a while, Steve thought I should take him into the ER, so I did and sure enough, he's got a fractured wrist.
Now in most families, the excitement would end there, right. But as we all know, us Wrights aren't "most" families and so the craziness continues!! While in the ER, I started having a really hard time breathing. As time went on it was becoming harder and harder to breathe and I was coughing an awful lot. One of the nurse's thought I should check in and be seen since we were already there. So I did. Next thing I know, they're putting me in a gown, doing chest x-rays, breathing treatments, putting oxygen on me, giving me steroids, etc. Needless to say, I was in the midst of an asthma attack (didn't even know I had asthma...seriously). Poor Justin, he was discharged without me and had to sign his own discharge papers. Then, had to sit there and wait for me. Luckily, I was able to go home after a few hours and here I sit blogging about it. What a day, huh? Only in the Wright house...

Man of the day!!
Seven times a year, we celebrate a birthday in our home. Today was Justins. Fourteen long years ago, I gave birth to this 10 pound 10 ounce monster.
He chose homemade hamburgers for dinner. Yes, he's truly a Wright, we love our meat! Well, most of us. Steph is a vegetarian and has been now for almost 3 months.
But that's another story for another time. Anyways, in our home, when it is your birthday, you choose the dinner menu and you don't have to do any chores on that day. Josh thought we were kidding when we said he had to do dishes...
he wasn't smiling that big after dinner!!
Afterwards we have cake and ice cream and if this is the year for a party (we only do them every other year) then they have their big party with friends on the weekend. Unfortunately for Justin, football is still in session...
which kind of gets in the way of parties so he will have to wait a while for his party. We decided that when the season is over we'll just invite some of his teammates over and have a Guitar Hero Party. He was cool with that. So anyways, as is tradition in our home, Jarom sampled the cake (thinking he was being sneaky).
Everyone licked the candles
and most importantly...everyone loved the cake!!

even uncle Scott came from Cali...and loved the cake!!
Oh...and Justin was happy to be the center of attention.
Happy Birthday Justin!! We love you...hippy hair and all!!
