presents

So, out of curiosity, do you buy each of your kids the same amount of gifts? If so, how many per kid? Or do you do it by amount spent per kid? how do you determine what your kids will get?

I don't buy any set number of gifts. I just think of what they like and what our budget can take. I also usually encourage them to share some and the really special ones they can decide how to use them.

I try to spend the same amount on each of the kids. Especially when they are older. The gifts keep getting more and more expensive.

But the younger ones I tend to make sure the amount of gifts are about the same.

I make the number of gifts even. Sometimes I'll have to break something up or put two gifts together in one box - but the number of boxes is always even. We take turns opening and watching each other open so it is important to make it the same. Taking turns also helps Christmas last a little longer!

Danny doesn't think things are usually "fair" in his family(Mom & 5 brothers), so with his kids he's quite careful to make sure dollar amount and number of presents are pretty close for each. Let's just say it can get a bit silly at times.

I am maticulus about spending the same amount on each kid. I have a little notebook in my purse and write down what I spend. (when they were little it was more the number of gifts since things weren't as expensive) Then if they say hey he got more than me I remind them that things cost different amounts and it is always fair. And, if they are going to whine about it, Santa's elf is more then happy to lighten their load. (hah)
I had a married child this year and we decided once they were gone, we did not spend as much on him or the wife. I also had a missionary out this year and you don't spend much on them cuz there really isn't much they need.
Hope your Christmas was merry.
