tonight

Had an 8 cow enrichment tonight...It was really cool. My mother accompanied me to listen to me speak. I spoke on how not to be a mad cow...how to be a friendly one. I think it went over really well.
My niece Michelle is spending the night with us tonight. She's playing volleyball with our young women in the morn. I can't be rude and be on the computer all night...gotta go.

triggered desires

I want a baby. I really, really want a baby!! I've been wanting one for a while now. I start having withdrawals when mine start hitting around 2 and a half or 3. You'd think that after 5, the oldest of which is 19, I would be done. And I am done...I just really wish I could have another. It's nothing I think about on a daily basis or anything but when I see someone with a baby it makes me miss those days and think about what joy it is to hold a sweet little baby in your arms. Then there's those days when I think...only 15 more years and we're done!! But my Sister in Law announced last week that she is expecting and that triggered my desires. Now I keep thinking about how lucky she is to have that sweet little something to hold, to love, to kiss and to make her feel loved unconditionally....like only a baby can.

remember your first best friend

So one of my weaknesses is wrapped in a little blue wrapper and is called Dove Promises. Not only do I love them because of the way the chocolate feels like silk when melting in your mouth but because of the little daily thought they put on the inside of the wrapper. During sacrament meeting today I decided to have myself a little taste of heaven and popped one in my mouth. My wrapper said "remember your first best friend.". Which got me thinking about mine. Her name was Nicole Kuzma. I grew up in military housing in San Diego and her house was connected to mine...directly next door. I want to say that we were 7 when we met...and we were inseperable. If her family went somewhere I went with them and vice versa. We dressed alike, we did our hair the same, we played softball together and chased after the same boys (when we were older)...inseperable!! So today, I want you to remember your first best friend...and I want to hear one thing about her.

Yard Sales and Bunco

As of today, when one enters my home, they will encounter this in the entryway... Isn't she a beauty? I bought her today for...wait for it...wait for it...10 bucks!! So the table and everything on it cost me a total of 20 bucks!! Is that awesome or what? All yard sale purchases.
The following is a picture of what I like to call my washboard wall. This whole wall including the mirrors was $5. I paid a buck for each of the mirrors which were a horrible orange (but black paint makes the world a better place) and $3 for the 2 small washboards. The big one is actually the washboard my grandma washed my moms clothes on. Pretty cool huh? If you happen upon an unwanted washboard please send it my way!
This wall was $4.98...thats what I paid for the 2 gold plates and the red sign was a bunco win made by one of the ladies in the bunco group.
This, too was also a bunco win made by the same lady!! It sets on one side of my piano and brings me much happiness. I do not know yet what will go there when the 4th of July has come and gone but I'm sure I'll think of something.
On the other side of my piano sits my most treasured purchase of the day...Vogues book of Etiquette. I paid a whoppin 25 cents for it and I can't get enough of it!! This book was purchased new by the lady I bought it from about 50 or 60 years ago. It was printed in 1948 and is full of helpful hints for men and women on etiquette. Quite interesting!! I plan never to part with this little treasure!! Look at the binding!! So worn and old...I love it!! And here is a sampling of what you will find inside of her. Click on the picture to be able to read the excerpt.
Yard Sales and Bunco...2 of my favorite things!!

MJ

I know he was a freak in his latter years but I'm quite sad about Michael Jackson. I grew up listening to him...loving him...waiting up to see Thriller when it premiered on MTV is one of my greatest movies. Am I a freak or were you a little sad too?

2 truths and a lie

Back when I lived in San Antonio I held a Christmas party and invited a bunch of people that wouldn't normally hang out together. I did this so everyone could get to know eachother better. So, we played several "getting to know you" games but one that we played was 2 truths and a lie. This is where you go around the room and tell 3 things about yourself with one of those things being a lie. It's great fun to try and figure out which one is the lie and to hear the stories behind the truths. That night, we found out that one of the people had made it all the way to the semifinals of Who wants to be a millionaire. One of the people did not have indoor plumbing until 1994. Two of the guys there were cloggers when they were younger which was so hilarious because they were both "manly" men. So, I decided we should play 2 truths and a lie. I will list 3 things about myself. In the comments you need to list which one you think is the lie and I reveal my secret tomorrow. Feel free to list 3 things about yourself so that I can guess your lie as well. Okay, so here's my 3 things:
~I hitchhiked across 5 states and 2 countries at the ripe age of 15 - Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Colorado and straight into Mexico...I felt like Thelma and Louise (except they drove themselves)
~I once got into a fight at a Tanya Tucker concert resulting in her stopping her concert and calling out for security thru her microphone. I didn't get in trouble though because I was defending myself from a group that was trying to barge their way into our spot that we had saved for the 8 hours prior to the concert.
~My senior year of high school my best friend Tabby and I were running from a group of guys and jumped right off of the pier at Ocean Beach straight into the water. We ended up having to be saved by the lifeguards because we got caught in the current.
hmmmm, lets see who knows the real me.

sad

Tonight I went to drop Justin off at one of his friends house in our old neighborhood. While there I drove past a group of kids who just happened to be friends with my oldest son when we lived there and he wasn't too cool for them. I pulled up and yelled (and I yell very loud) "Hey Matt, what are you guys doing?!!" To which he mumbled with his teeth together and his lips barely moving "I'm on a date, you're not supposed to be here!" So I said "sorry, gosh!! I was just in the neighborhood and happy to see you" and then I yelled even louder "Hey Adam!! It's sister Wright!!" Adam looked my way, got all excited and came to the car. "How are you?" he asked and before I could answer he said "how's Josh?!". "Oh, he's good..working a couple of jobs and just living life". "Is he still getting married? When?" "yep, and sometime after December". He got kinda sad and said "well, tell him we said hi". "I will...it was great seeing you guys...bye" I said. And then I drove off....feeling very sad inside. It was just less than 2 years ago that my son was hanging with these kids and enjoying life. And while they are still living the innocent life of having a curfew, borrowing mom and dads car and dating, my son is trying to grow up all too fast. He has his own place, getting ready to get married, and struggling to make ends meet. How I just wished he would have taken the easy route...the route he's going to wish he took 20 years from now. As much as I love him and his fiancee Julia, I feel they are both kids...they both have a lot of growing up to do, a lot of life to live. They could both be doing what I saw tonight. And I want that for both of them. But they won't...and that makes me very, very sad.

stuff

So we went and bought freezer filler stuff. I bought tons of frozen veges, meat, bacon, waffles, you know, freezer stuff and yes, hubby bought TONS of ice cream. So I guess we both won that war.
I bought a new book tonight...My sisters keeper. Has anyone read it yet? I hear its great. I am almost done with book 4 of the Twilight series and will jump right into this new book. Don't know what I will read after that so if you have any suggestions please let me know.
Went out to eat with Art and Jana tonight. We met at SomeBurros and chit chatted over dinner. While I love getting together with them, I feel we do all the talking. Jana just sits there and studies my every word...just looking for something that I might say or do wrong so that she can blog about it and make me the laughing stock of her blog cause that's how Jana rolls...and Art just waits for me to say the wrong thing so he can make a big fat joke about it and he and my hubby can laugh at me. So I decided on my way home tonight that the next time they decide to grace us with their presence I will let them do all the talking while I study Jana, giggle and raise an eyebrow at some of her comments every so often...you know, to make her feel "nervous".
Actually, I really love Art and Jana. They're great peeps. She always acts so amused at my stories. She laughs at my jokes and makes me feel really "important". And Art's great...he's one of those "yes, dear" type of guys and boy, he can make us laugh...even in all of his seriousness, he makes us laugh.

filling the freezer

Hubby and I bought a freezer today...I am so excited!! All I've been wanting for the past few months is a freezer...upright, frost free, and big. And I got one. There's just one problem. I bought it with the intentions of filling it with meat, bread, cheese, etc... Hubby is under the impression it will only be filled with ice cream!! He has all the neighborhood kids thinking we will have a freezer full of ice cream!! Though I like his vision, I just don't think it's practical. Especially since I am trying to lose weight. Soooo, who should win this battle? And who do you think will win it?

~I went to bed with a smile on my face...a great BIG smile!!

Look what I learned today

The following information was found on Normal Mormon Husbands blog...Approximately 97% of all Mormon women between the ages of 16 and 42 have read Sister Meyer's books (the Twilight series) and I'm guessing that 92% of them wish their husbands/boyfriends were more like Edward or Jacob in some way. The other 8% have a crush on either Jack, Sayeed, or Sawyer from Lost.
You learn something new every day!!

I was called to be RS President

The other night I dreamt that I was called to be the RS President. They had a huge ceremony to announce my great calling. Many great people were present to witness the occasion. I don't remember the whole dream too well but I do remember that Oprah was there and presented me with a solid gold Angel Moroni statue and he was in the form of a baby.
Anyone who is my age or older will probably remember being in school and smelling the freshly copied worksheets we used to get. The teacher would bring us our copies straight off of the Xerox machine. The paper was still warm and the purple ink hadn't even dried yet. Mmmmmm, I LOVED the smell of that purple ink!! I would sniff it until there was no scent left!! I wonder if that's the reason for my warped dreams these days?!

I met a boy today

My brothers girlfriend Paula graduated from MA school yesterday. Her mom threw a bbq for her this evening so my parents, Steve and I went. While there we met a boy that I just can't stop thinking about. He was 9 years old and so so cute. This little boy taught himself how to play the piano and so far has mastered 6 songs including the song from the Titanic!! He advised me that he can't wait until he is 11 so that he can ground his younger brothers and that he can't wait to be an adult so that he can cuss. We tried to talk him out of that one. While telling us his life story he was drawing a picture. As Steve watched him he noticed that this boy kept looking down at his shirt and was drawing exactly what was on his shirt. And I am not lying when I tell you that he was a great artist!! Steve said, "who taught you how to do that?" to which he replied "I was born like this". Steve said, "you were born with that pencil in your hand" and he said "well, not this pencil". He then told us that he was going to get rich with his artwork and he was going to buy his mom healthcare!! He also advised us that his daddy is a Marine and is in Iraq right now and that if his daddy dies he will have to be the man of the house!! That just made me so sad. What 9 year old worries about healthcare and being the man of the house!! Anyways, he was just so cute, so smart and so young...and I bet in all of his innocence he has no clue what an impression he made on me. Innocence...isn't it grand?

thanks mom!!

Mom, Aunt Julia and I went to Mesa Market Place today. For those that aren't from Mesa, it is a HUGE swap meet (over 55 acres) where they sell everything from pet rocks to clothing to furniture to outdoor decor...EVERYTHING!! While there, we watched a demo for these "magic" markers. They really were cool and we got suckered into buying some but that stories for another day. When the lady was done giving us her demo and convincing us that we were getting a "steal" with her price my mom said "you're a pretty good sales girl...my daughter here can sell anything...she could sell you a rock and you'd think you were buying a treasure...are you hiring?". WHAT!! I know she did not just ask that girl if she was hiring!! The last thing I want to do is sell "magic" markers to a bunch of retired folk in 110 degree weather. I can't stand those pushy sales people at swap meets, you know the ones that walk up to you and force you to listen to them feed you crap about some cheesey product...especially some "as seen on TV" gimmick you catch at 3 am when your kids won't let you sleep. Well, before I knew it this girl was asking for my phone #, talking to me about salary, and asking if I might be interested in selling this "magic" glue at some swap meet in Phoenix. Ummmm, thanks mom!!

Who?

Mom, Aunt Julia and I went to Wal-Mart today. While there, mom said she needed a new lampshade as hers was ripped in the move SO we strolled on over to that section. As we looked and commented on of the available shades I thought to myself "hmmm, $13.97...not bad!!" Especially because they had some really cute ones. Then mom says, "wow $13.97, that's kinda high. I think I'll shop around". and my aunt agreed with her..."yeah, that is a little high, let's keep looking for a better deal". "shop around?!?" I said. "Who has cheaper lampshades than Wal-Mart?" To which they both replied, "well you never know". So my question to you is Who has cheaper lampshades than Wal-Mart? Not used.

YW Camp

My baby girl left for camp this morning. This is her first year going. Made me so sad. Apparently, she wasn't as sad as I. At least I know she wasn't the only one completely ecstatic about leaving their moms.
Aren't they so cute?

Parents got the keys to their new house today...yay!! This is their house pictured above...isn't it cute? Went with my mom to buy a new fridge for her house...stainless steel at Costco. Went to Ross to buy new dishtowels for her kitchen. Helped my baby girl pack for Girls Camp...she leaves tomorrow. What'd you do today?

on my mind

Mom, Dad and Aunt Julia got here today. What does this mean to you? Well, it means you didn't see me at church today. It means you probably won't get a phone call from me this week just to chat and it means you won't see as much of me. But you will all be on my mind!! And yes Jana, I will continue to post every day!!

Have I mentioned

Steph had a few friends over today to hang out in the pool. While out there, they decided to make up a dance, among other things.
They had a blast!! By the way, have I mentioned...Jared walks on water!!
and he can also scratch his toe while diving...

AH HAH....WHAT CAN YOUR KIDS DO?

nothing to brag about

non eventful day here in the Wright house. For the most part, all of the kids stayed in today. It was quite a peaceful day. Wonderful to just be with the family!! I really wasn't feeling well all day. I got a lot of reading done and that's about it!!

As seen on TV

I was with a few women this evening that I go to church with and after discussing what we had met to discuss we stayed and visited for a while. As with all women, we talked about all kinds of different stuff...dishsoap, laundry soap, how to stretch your dollars, vinyl lettering, owning a business, the economy, how to have cash in our pockets without hubbies knowing, you know, all the important stuff in life. But the one topic I am still thinking about is all the crap one can buy when sucked into those infomercials you see all night long. Yes, some of the stuff is worth trying but for the most part, it's a waste. We talked about the Turbo Cooker, the Green Bags to keep your produce fresh, makin bacon, instyler, bendaroos, EZ combs, the BumpIt (which I really want to try) and a ton of other stuff. There are so many products out there!! So I'm just wondering...what infomercial product do you remember most AND have you ever bought anything from those infomercials? I'll be honest here, I haven't but hubby did buy the TurboCooker and the FoodSaver (both of which I liked and got a lot of use out of). Your turn.

I got a good nap today

So my family always makes fun of me for having the inability to stay awake thru a whole movie. It doesn't matter what movie it is or who I'm with, I CANNOT stay awake thru an entire movie. I would say this happens at least 80% of the time. But this really only happens in the comfort of my own home. I don't fall asleep at someone else's home or in the theatres but if I am at my own home and someone pops a movie in, you can guarantee that I will be napping. Which is why I was shocked today when hubby nudged me to tell me I was snoring too loud...I was at the movies watching Night at the Museum 2. For one, it was a good movie and I was really into it and for two, I was in the theatre!! Who falls asleep at the movies?!?!

F&E

I'll be the first to admit that when Fresh and Easy made there debut here in the valley I was so unimpressed. I couldn't understand what all the hype was about. But since they sent out $5 off of a $20 purchase I decided I would take a shot at it. I am not kidding when I tell you that I struggled to hit that $20 mark. I was not about to pay for bananas that were individually priced or a 4 pack of apples. Us Wrights buy things by the case!! And 4 apples would last about 20 seconds in this house. So I bought a bunch of stuff I didn't need and maybe 1 thing that I did, saved my 5 bucks and left. And I never went back...UNTIL I moved out here to Timbuktu and right on my main cross streets sat a Fresh and Easy! After about a month or 2 of living here and passing it on a daily basis I decided to go back...give it a 2nd try because I'm nice like that. And lo and behold, I LOVED IT!!! They are really just as cheap as any other place on a lot of their stuff and honestly, their stuff is so fresh!! I am addicted to their fresh pizza dough...no preservatives...all you do is roll it out...1 DER FULL!! They also sell the best chocolate for dipping as I think I've pointed out before. Their yeast is cheaper than anyone else's (except Costco). But the one reason I frequent that place as much as I do is for these....You will not find better Cashews than these bad boys!! Not at Sprouts, not at Sunflower, and definitely not in a planters can at Wal-mart! I've had lots of company in the last 6 months and ALL of them have tried and fallen in love with these cashews!! Now, go and get yourself a bag!! You'll be glad you did!

I've got a challenge!!

So my friend Janalee is trying to outdo the rest of us by blogging every day in the month of June. Do you really think she'll make it? I know many of us have tried this a time or two and never succeed but Jana is different...she's one of those girls who finishes everything she starts. Well, I refuse to let her outdo me so I, too, will be blogging everyday this month (I hope) and I would like to challenge all of you to do the same. So, if your up to this challenge, please let me know as I will check your blog daily and those of you who keep your promise will get a little treat for your loyalties to the blogging community. And your daily blogs can be as short or as long as you want them. Even 1 sentence will count...kinda like FaceBook. I'll be doing lots of those I'm sure. Oh yeah, June 1st doesn't count since I am posting so late. Anyways, look at these pics of Jarom...
Is he a studmuffin or what??
